SpecialSomeone.com.au is an online community and dating website, designed for people with special needs. It is an amazing tool for finding friendship acceptance and love.
SpecialSomeone was created by my husband, Otis Fantauzzo and me (Sara Fantauzzo), after years of thinking about the need for social connection for people with disabilities and conditions.
I grew up closely with my brother Marc, who has autism, and I know firsthand the difficulties that being “different” brings. Marc always had problems making friends and connecting with others, not because of his disability directly, but because people are unaware and sometimes unaccepting.
It was heart breaking to be living the normal social teen life, while Marc, would wait around for a phone call or hang around with our parents. So I would often include Marc when it came to outings, and Marc made incredible progress with people over the years. Since then he has grown to be an independent guy, with a long term job, loads of living skills and got his driver’s license! All the things a person wants, except of course, the companionship of true friends.
We are all unique, and I believe we often get along with those who share a similar experience in life, similar situations. This community will provide a network of acceptance and understanding.
We have been waiting for Australian government to give people more than financial and housing assistance, but they haven’t. So we have created the place for social assistance. It’s free for all, or you can upgrade for a small cost to use webcam chat and instant messaging. So there are avenues for safe communications within the site.
People need love and socialising, to share the challenges of life with someone, to see that there are others out there who understand. To see how many life challenges there are out there, and how many people are willing to accept those with them.
So it really doesn’t matter what your life challenge is, disability or mental illness. Medical or just plain shyness.... everyone deserves a special someone. And you might just find yours here...
